100 years of Clinical Chemistry at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Across the week there will be an afternoon tea party for previous and existing staff members, tours of the lab for inpatients, displays of posters and activities in Outpatients, displays of posters in staff areas with interactive aspects (sniffing urine for disorders etc), and pieces of equipment to explore. The Trust intranet is focussing on staff groups through the week with 'a day in the life...' (clinical scientist, MLA, BMS, training posts). A social media quick quiz of equipment will also be held. We will be working with play team members across the Trust and chaplaincy/volunteers to support our events.
Patients and service users will gain knowledge of different roles and jobs within chemistry (and wider pathology), facts of an historical nature (e.g. Evelyn Hickmans), knowledge of patholgy and diagnosis of metabolic disorders. There will also be a celebration within chemistry from the commitments from previous staff and the shared knowledge.
