An updated version of the RCPath Best practice recommendations: Staffing and workload for cellular pathology departments, due to launch in April 2024, is currently open for final consultation.
The new edition reflects changes to working practices that have taken place since the 2019 consultation in relation to surgical and laboratory practices, molecular testing and ongoing advancements in technology (such as digital pathology and artificial intelligence). While not universally used to allocate work within all departments, we recommend it be used as a metric to help quantify workload at departmental level and to aid individual pathologists job planning exercises.
All appropriate feedback generated from the 2019 consultation has been acted upon and shaped this updated version. The consultation period will close at 5pm on Friday 1 March 2024.
