The Royal College of Pathologists is proud to announce that the Pathology Portal has been Highly Commended in the Digital Literacy, Education and Upskilling category at the HSJ Digital Awards 2024, recognising excellence in digitising, connecting, and transforming health and care.

All the ‘top spots’ from a total of 23 categories, were announced during a ceremony held at Manchester Central on 6 June 2024, hosted by comedian and writer, Hal Cruttenden and where the achievements of 191 shortlisted finalists (from an impressive 343 entries) were celebrated.

The HSJ Digital Awards are fast becoming an opportunity to recognise and applaud the power of digital products, projects and services to transform care delivery, enhance efficiency, and improve patient outcomes.

This highly competitive judging process for the awards strives to ensure that the most effective digital innovations can be `celebrated, scaled and spread'.

Professor Jo Martin, Pathology Portal Project lead said:

"We are absolutely delighted that the Pathology Portal has been highly commended for this prestigious award. This is a wonderful recognition of all those who have supported the portal, helping it go from strength to strength since its launch in August 2022. In particular, the commendation is a testament to the Royal College of Pathologists and NHS England Technology Enhanced Learning Project team, and the 100 plus editors and contributors who develop content and provide thousands of resources."

Categories cover many aspects of the health and social care sector, demonstrating how digital initiatives can help to improve ‘hard to tackle’ issues such as reducing inequalities; improving mental health through digital services; assisting with the ongoing move to net zero and enhancing workforce engagement, productivity, and wellbeing.

Reflecting the growth and innovation within the sector, 5 new categories were also added to the 2024 awards programme, including driving change through AI and automation and Digital Organisation of the Year.

HSJ editor Alastair McLellan adds

`Following such a successful launch last year, it really is great to be back, recognising and celebrating the achievements of so many digital innovators within our health and social care sector. And, it’s amazing to see that the level of interest and engagement in these relatively new awards is continuing to grow – which demonstrates the commitment and enthusiasm from so many experts and leaders working in this field.

“Well done Pathology Portal for the part you’re playing in helping to ‘switch up’ the conversation around the current digital agenda and for taking the opportunity to benchmark your own successes against the country’s leading NHS and digital health sector organisations and projects.'

The winners and highly commended entries were selected following a rigorous two-stage judging process by a group of 93 judges ahead of the HSJ Digital 2024 awards ceremony. The Pathology Portal

The Pathology Portal is developed and maintained in partnership with NHS England and the NHS Learning Hub platform, providing opportunities for trainees, practising pathologists, scientists and those in pathology-linked roles, to access high quality resources to advance their practice.

The Pathology Portal team would like to thank all those who have supported the project so far, including the IBMS and our other professional body colleagues. As we celebrate this achievement, the Pathology Portal team looks forward to continuing the development of new functionalities and resources.
