The College has recently launched the new Ophthalmic Pathology Fellowship.

Sarah Coupland, the College's Registrar, is a senior Consultant Histopathologist at the Liverpool University Foundation Hospital Trusts. She is an expert in ophthalmic pathology, leading one of the National Specialist Ophthalmic Pathology Services (NSOPS) in England.

In 2024, after 2 unexpected consultant retirements in England NSOPS, the specialist eye services have been in crisis. Sarah has been working with the College's Workforce team over the past few months to support the sub-specialty and has been able to secure £100,000 NHSE funding for an Ophthalmic Pathology Fellowship.

We are very happy to report that the fellowship applications launched on 16 September and will be open until 20 October 2024. The lead applicant must be employed by 1 of the 4 NSOPS in England (Liverpool University NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Moorfields Eye Hospital and Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust).
