The Royal College of Pathologists has today launched its priorities for Northern Ireland, drawn up by the College Northern Ireland Regional Council, for the reformed executive.

The College hosts Regional Councils, comprising specialty members, for the devolved nations. These Regional Councils provide professional leadership in their country and contribute at a national and UK level to the maintenance and development of pathology services and the quality of care that patients receive.

The Northern Ireland executive has responsibility for a range of devolved areas, including health services. In August, Mike Nesbitt MLA, Minister of Health in Northern Ireland, visited the Kelvin Laboratories, Royal Victoria Hospital, at Belfast Health & Social Care Trust to see first-hand the work undertaken by the pathology and laboratory staff from across a range of pathology specialties.

The College priorities for the executive focus on the following areas:

  • Investing in workforce for patients
  • IT and infrastructure for better patient care
  • Staff wellbeing
  • Learning from the pandemic

In this priorities document we look at the key challenges facing pathologists and call on the executive to address these areas. Download the College manifesto here:
