Nominations for England Regional Representative Member of Council

Why should I apply?

This College has a key role in the professional aspects of pathology services in the development and delivery of healthcare. Those holding office in the College provide professional leadership, and thereby contribute at a national level to the maintenance and development of pathology services and the quality of care that patients receive. The College expects its office holders to be proactive and to provide leadership, not only in their own specialty, but also in pathology in general, in the wider context of health services. The College’s influence extends to all sectors of healthcare provision.

What does the role entail?

The College is its membership, and coordination, coherence and consistency between national, regional and local activities is paramount. All office holders are expected to subscribe to these principles. College officers play a key role and work together to ensure coherent College advice and guidance across their 3 areas of activity at the international, national, regional and local levels through the College clinical directors, England regional representatives and devolved nation representatives providing professional leadership within their regions. The College is also expected to provide advice and guidance on specialty-specific issues nationally, regionally and locally. Specialty Advisory Committees provide professional leadership within their specialty.

What is the commitment?

As a member of College Council, the English Regional Member will provide advice and input into debate on matters relating to the practice of pathology as a profession, including all the professional, clinical, education and research functions of the College. The contribution should include both professional knowledge related to topics under discussion but specifically should focus on representing members’ views from the region and any specific regional interests.

The College has 4 English Regional Groups (North, South, Midlands and East England, and London). Within these regions, the membership has an elected member who will support communication between College Council, the functions of the College and members within the region and across all specialties. There are currently vacancies for South, Midlands and East England, and London.

Each region in England holds a series of member surgeries. These take place in the run-up to a College Council meeting and are designed as an open forum for members to meet their regional representative, peers and colleagues across the region, and to discuss their work, areas of concern and points of interest. These interests and concerns are then presented to College Council.

In between formal College Council meetings, work may be dealt with electronically. The post holder is expected to respond to electronic requests in a timely manner.
